Department/Location:Patient Access ED
Position Summary Supervisor, ER Registrars supervises the
day-to-day operations of the Patient Access emergency department
team and able to assist with the team's work as needed. Responsible
for the oversight of the Patient Access emergency department team
and assuring staff is adhering to all hospital policies and
standards. Responsible to provide reporting of staff trending and
performance standards to senior leadership. The supervisor is
responsible to implement front-end policies and best practices as
it relates to registration processes. This position supervises the
employee workflow and performance. Provides direction and
leadership to respective staff. Assures staff productivity, quality
and customer service are monitored and meet the departmental
standards. Assure reporting is provided to senior leadership as it
relates to productivity, performance, and standards. Works in
collaboration with department manager and multiple departments
throughout the health system.
Education & Experience Requirements:
Minimum Education: Graduate of an Accredited College or University
with a B.S. in Business Administration preferred.
Minimum Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years in Patient Access required, preferable in a
hospital setting
- Strong leadership, management, and education of staff to revenue
cycle functions
- Establishes and maintains an in-depth knowledge of revenue cycle
principles, practices, procedures, regulatory compliance, and
internal controls.
- Knowledge of hospital billing and reimbursement of insurance as
well as third-party billing.
- Strong communication skill sets and abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft office/excel to include reporting,
Executive level required.
Core Competencies:
- Develops and submits departmental goals and objectives as
required by the Division Administrator.
- Interviews, hires, evaluates, counsels and terminates employees
as per hospital policy
- Schedules staff based on budgeted staffing plan and department
needs.
- Develops and submits operating and capital budgets and reports
variances as required to the Division Administrator.
- Ensures compliance with state regulations and accreditation
standards.
- Ensures completion of staff orientation, annual and ongoing
competency and education requirements.
- Participates and assures department involvement in ongoing
Performance Improvement initiative as required. Submits reports as
required.
- Utilizes multiple methodologies to communicate
information.
- Submits all other work reports as required/requested by the
Division Administrator.
- Keep the Assistant Vice President Revenue Cycle informed at all
times of the status of problems relating to the department.
- Responsible for submitting bi-weekly payroll and maintaining
records of holiday, sick and vacation time for all personnel.
- Integrity to handle the confidential aspects of work.
- Retains composure under stress
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the
Following:
- Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards,
Policies and Behaviors.
- Responsible for the oversight of the patient access emergency
room team.
- Oversees the day-to-day operation of the department, provides
guidelines, expectations, training and monitors performance to
ensure department goals are met.
- Monitors staff productivity and quality, develops and
recommends changes in procedure and work assignments
- Responsible for overseeing the departments adherence to all
policies and protocol standards set with the hospital and
department.
- Responsible to provide reporting to senior leadership, on a
regular basis, as it relates to staff trending, performance and
standards.
- Familiar with and assures adherence to state and federal
requirements, guidelines and laws for facilities as it relates to
registration processes.
- Keep senior leadership abreast of all situations within the
department as it relates to employees as well as
operationally.
- Is responsible for development of and roll out of processes to
assure compliance to all state and federal regulations.
- Plans, assigns, directs and monitors the work of subordinate
staff
- Develops and/or approves staff schedules; analyzes and
distributes staff assignments and workloads
- Manage and maintain the schedule to assure proper staff
coverage for all shifts.
- Manage and maintain time off requests within the departmental
standards.
- Ensures departmental internal controls are established and
routinely tested.
- Manages to establish internal control systems and
policies/procedures to meet White Plains Hospital's goals
- Is responsible and accountable for the overall operations of
their assigned department. Overall operations of the department
include development of department goals and objectives that are
consistent with the hospital mission, the management of personnel,
preparing/monitoring of and accountability for the department
budgets.
- Ensures employee compliance with hospital and Human Resources
policies and procedures, employee competency and education
requirements are satisfied as per hospital policy
- Participates in the Performance Improvement Program as defined
by the organization.
- Attends Management/Leadership meetings as scheduled/required
and communicates hospital policies, performance improvement
initiatives and all other required information to their staff.
- Is responsible to assume a leadership role in committees, task
forces and projects as appropriate.
- Ensures the provision of a safe employee/patient
environment.
- Works collaboratively with all levels of the hospital
interdisciplinary team and promotes the team concept within their
department and hospital wide.
- Demonstrates positive customer service, fosters positive
employee relations and assures that staff adheres to the Customer
Service Behavioral Standards.
- Is supportive of hospital initiatives and projects and
functions as a positive change agent.
- Promotes a positive and professional image and is a role model,
coach, mentor and resource for staff and peers.
- All other duties as assigned
