Overview









SMBC is seeking a Credit Risk Framework & Policies associate to support the activities of the Risk Management Department Americas Division's Credit Portfolio Risk team. The person will report to the Director of Credit Risk Framework & Policies.The person will utilize previous experience in Risk Management to play an active role in supporting the Credit Risk Framework and Policies.Activities will include:Support the lead in developing and maintaining SMBCAD's credit governance framework (policies, CUSO Credit Risk Appetite Statement, Risk Acceptance Criteria (RACs), and associated manuals, documentation requirements, and template) alongside ERM and Business Units.Support the lead in the design, enhancement, and/or ongoing implementation and refinement of the overall U.S. credit risk management governance framework, taking into account AD business strategy and market trends.The anticipated salary range for this role is between $85,000 and $131,000. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.













Responsibilities









Objectives (Key Responsibilities):Delivery

Coordinate with the Credit Data Management and Reporting team as they monitor portfolio trends and policy exceptions to determine whether additional refinements to policies or RACs may be warranted to address emerging risks.Coordinate with other SMBC subject matter experts (e.g., Legal, Risk) to regularly update or develop policies to maintain alignment to U.S. and international supervisory expectations.Review examination feedback from Credit Review (CRVD), Internal Audit (IAD), external audit, and SMBC's regulators to determine whether policy or other guidance updates are appropriate to address findings, alongside other credit risk management units.Communicate credit policy and governance updates to senior leadership and relevant stakeholders, as well as provide training, in coordination with the Bank's learning and development function.

Excellent verbal communication and collaboration skills to solicit input and distill complex credit issues and concepts into credit risk appetite, policy and guidance. statements accessible to all stakeholders with different experience levels.Excellent writing skills to draft policies and guidance.Able to work well across functions, ascertain and capture multiple points of view, render information so that it is accurate and actionable, and promptly follow-up.Ability to communicate confidently and effectively at every level of the organization, including credit risk peers, business unit partners and senior executives.Expertise
Expert understanding of credit risk management concepts, proficient understanding of wholesale credit products, and knowledge of U.S. and international regulatory requirements and industry best practices.In-depth knowledge of the end-to-end lifecycle of credit (e.g., underwriting, ongoing monitoring, workout / collections) and working knowledge of credit risk management frameworks and systems (e.g., 3 lines of defense, risk appetite, risk ratings).Strong analytical skills; intellectually curious; excellent problem-solving abilities and the ability to break apart issues and come up to speed on new issues, attention to detail.QualificationsRequirements:
3+ years of experience in the financial services industry1+ year of experience in international financial services in a foreign owned bank operating in the United States is desirableEducation:Required: Bachelor's degree in Finance or related fieldPreferred: Advanced degree or equivalent in relevant field (e.g., MBA or MS in Risk Management of Finance)Preferred: Relevant certifications such as CFA, FRM
