JOB TITLE:                   Life Skills Educator

DEPARTMENT:            Homeless Services

FLSA:                            Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO:              Service Coordinator

LOCATION:                  White Plains, NY

SUMMARY: Teach daily living skills to families with children ages 0-5 to better prepare them for permanent housing.


  • Work collaboratively with Westchester County Department of Social Services (WCDSS) and other service providers to help families improve daily living skills.
  • Engage families and develop a supportive, strength-based coaching relationship with them.
  • Develop a customized life skills plan with families that details the goals to be accomplished, identification of obstacles and plan of action.
  • Provide education, training, conduct workshops and provide/distribute materials that will further assist the residents to live in a clean and safe environment.
  • Focus on issues such as housekeeping, time management, stress management, budgeting, interpersonal skills and identifying community supports and resources for their children, specifically the responsibility for sharing resources and facilitating connection to early care & education programs.
  • Participate in monthly Town Hall meetings.
  • Link families with community-based providers that are able to meet their long-term social support and service needs including early care and education programs.
  • Maintain accurate written record of services provided to families and all required documentation in accordance with Westhab and WCDSS requirements.
  • Maintain demographic and other needed information regarding residents for use in statistical reporting through ClientTrack HMIS and other databases.
  • Submit accurate, timely reports as requested.


Bachelors degree in social work or related field preferred. Strong computer, presentation, written and verbal communication skills required.  Must have experience in one of the following areas: case management, home visiting, homelessness, or child welfare.  Ability to engage hard to reach families.  Understanding of and commitment to community and strength-based work.  Sensitivity to the needs of culturally diverse communities and families.  Must be available to work occasional evenings. Fluency in Spanish is highly desirable.
