Emerald is seeking a Business Development Manager to join our team in White Plains, NY. NY NOW is the modern wholesale Market for retailers and specialty buyers seeking diversity and discovery. Gathering twice a year in Americas design capital, New York City, and building community year-round through its 365 Digital Market, NY NOW is where buyers and designers unearth a refreshed and dedicated collection of eclectic lifestyle products in fashion, gift, handmade, home, sustainability, wellness, and more.


The Business Development Manager is responsible for sourcing and generating sales leads through active outreach to the market, as well as evaluating and developing potential sales leads generated through NY NOW marketing initiatives. This role will research potential leads prior to outreach as well as vet and qualify generated leads to determine their fit with NY NOWs ten sections. This role supports the live events, NY NOW Digital Market, as well as any potential future event launches. This role is mainly focused on lead generation rather than closing business but should have strong ability/knowledge of how to close business to assist with launches as required.

The best candidate for this position will be a self-directed and self-motivated salesperson with a demonstrated history of meeting and exceeding sales targets. You should bring a creative sales approach, with the ability to effectively surmount challenges. You must be highly organized and resilient, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.


  • Proactively sourcing and generating sales leads using social media and CRM tools
  • Working alongside VP, Sales to identify new and emerging and growth market opportunities and sourcing leads in priority areas for strategic growth
  • Utilizing MediaRadar and other media to research opportunities and formulate competitive pitches
  • Visiting in person shows previously not attended
  • Working alongside section Sales Managers to help prospect leads and handing leads over to Sales Managers
  • Curating and maintaining prospect lists to fold into the qualification cycle and generate leads
  • Working on any potential launches to help source leads and close accounts

  • Bachelors degree preferred
  • 3+ years of sales/business development experience
  • Trade show sales and/or media sales experience in the Gift & Home industry strongly preferred
  • Track record of acquiring new business with the ability to effectively close sales
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Strong outbound telemarketing and phone sales experience a plus
  • Computer literate in all aspects of Microsoft office a must
  • Experience with Salesforce or similar CRM required
  • Experience in the social media space a plus
  • Ability to travel as required
