Locum Tenens Physician Assistant needed for cardiothoracic surgery at a Level 1 Trauma Center in Hartford, CT - $5,130-$5,500/week; local candidates only.

Join a high-volume cardiothoracic surgery team in Hartford, Connecticut (zip 06105). This locum tenens Physician Assistant (PA) role supports inpatient cardiothoracic and trauma surgical services at both Saint Francis Hospital and Saint Mary's Hospital within a 35-mile coverage area. Ideal for experienced surgical PAs seeking short-term/contracts in Hartford, CT and other Connecticut PA jobs.

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $5,130 - $5,500
• Position: Locum Tenens Physician Assistant (PA) - Cardiothoracic Surgery / Surgical PA
• Setting: Hospital inpatient - Cardiothoracic Surgery Unit, Level 1 Trauma Center
• Location: Hartford, CT (covering both Saint Francis Hospital and Saint Mary's Hospital within a 35-mile area)
• Start Date: Mid July 2026
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks (possible extension to 6-12 months)
• Shift: Varied 8-hour day shifts (Mon-Fri), potential call and occasional 24-hour shifts
• Hours per Week: 40
• EMR: EPIC (experience preferred)

• Board certified NCCPA Physician Assistant (PA-C)
• Active Connecticut Physician Assistant license (required for Hartford, CT assignments)
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications
• Minimum 1 year hospital inpatient experience as a Physician Assistant (no new grads)
• Strong experience in cardiothoracic surgery or surgical critical care preferred
• EPIC EMR experience preferred
• Local candidates only (able to travel within the Hartford area; mileage reimbursed at IRS rate)
• Ability to perform required procedures: central venous and dialysis catheter placement, arterial lines, endoscopic retrieval (note: no intra-aortic balloon pump procedures)

• Provide inpatient pre-op and post-op care for adolescent, adult, and geriatric cardiothoracic surgery patients
• Conduct pre-operative physical exams and patient evaluations
• Assist in cardiothoracic surgeries and surgical procedures as part of the operating team
• Place central venous and dialysis catheters and arterial lines per hospital protocol
• Perform suture removal, wound checks, and post-op follow-up care
• Order, review, and interpret diagnostic tests and imaging
• Prescribe medications and write prescriptions within PA scope of practice
• Coordinate multi-disciplinary care and lead rounding for surgical patients
• Perform endoscopic retrieval procedures (excluding intra-aortic balloon pump placement)
• Work autonomously during assignment; supervising physician may not be physically present
