White Plains Hospital Job DescriptionTitle: Clinical Informatics Specialist Job Code: 700211 Department/Location: MIS FLSA Status: Exempt Reports to: Director of Information Technology Position Summary Coordinates, develops, and maintains the scope and performance of clinical information systems projects. Provides ongoing recommendations, training, and support for nursing services. Maintains project documentation by formulating and implementing policies and procedures. Maintains and updates the system. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following: 1. Supports Physicians, Nurses and related customers by professional face to face, written or phone communication, translating request into satisfactory solutions 2. Organize and/or attend periodic departmental meetings to review that clinical information system documentation reflects current practice. 3. Participates in performance improvement initiatives as required 4. Communicates information required regarding projects between Montefiore and Stellaris Health Systems and White Plains Hospital IT Department and hospital users. 5. Possesses the necessary leadership and communication skills for a customer driven service organization. 6. Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills. Is able to interact successfully with all levels of staff within the organization, physicians, vendors and technicians. 7. Maintains composure in responding to crisis situations and is able to take appropriate remedial action in making quick decisions which may have consequences for departmental operations and finances. 8. Maintains confidentiality of patient records or other confidential information. 9. Demonstrates accountability and professional attitude regarding personal schedule and work commitments. 10. Responsible for the development and maintenance of clinical documentation systems as assigned by Vice President. 11. Provide on-going education to staff regarding use of computers for clinical documentation. 12. Documents, tracks and monitors all reported problems, request for enhancements and system change request for the application systems. 13. Responsible for creating project management documentation, analysis, and methodology from initiation through installation. 14. Participates in, and conducts technical training programs; determines training objectives; writes training programs, including outlines, text, handouts, tests, and designs laboratory exercise. 15. Reviews, analyzes, and modifies application systems, which may include testing and trouble-shooting, to support the organization's Information Systems infrastructure. 16. Documents, tracks, and follows-up on all reported problems, requests for enhancements, and system change requests for the application systems in conjunction with the Director of IT. 17. Consults with users and/or departments to identify current operating issues related to application systems and assist in resolution. 18. Performs and provides status reports for projects, duties and tasks as assigned. 19. Foster's positive interpersonal relationships and professional image by adhering to the behavioral standards with internal and external contacts. 20. Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors 21. Performs all other related duties as assigned Education & Experience Requirements --- Associates Degree required. Bachelor's Degree preferred. --- Must have one year experience with Meditech or Epic Software, preferred. --- Minimum three years clinical experience as RN and/or other Clinical discipline preferred --- Expertise in the use of Microsoft Office products, word, power point and excel. --- Significant exposure to and knowledge of hospital department operating policies and procedures. --- Previous acute care clinical experience and an awareness of how, when, and to what extent different hospital departments relate to and communicate with one another (e.g., nursing stations to clinical departments, clinical department to billing department) --- Demonstrated experience working with members of the healthcare team. --- Demonstrated experience successfully supporting administrative, financial or clinical department managers and operating personnel with ability to work well with a variety of personalities. Core Competencies --- Interest in and enthusiasm for computerization and its potential for improving department and interdepartmental efficiency. --- Strong communication skills --- Well organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. --- Provides excellence in customer service under all circumstances Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment --- May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital's SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital's Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc. --- Frequent sitting for extended periods of time --- Ability to move about the office. --- Constantly operates computers and other office equipment as required. --- Ability to travel to and from different hospital offsite locations with minimal notice --- Must be able to adapt to a high stress environment with frequent interruptions --- Frequent exposure to computer noise.
