White Plains Hospital Job DescriptionTitle: Clinical LaboratoryAssistantJob Code: 500304Department/Location: Varied by LaboratorysectionFLSA Status: NEReports to: Laboratory Supervisor ofeach sectionPosition SummaryThe Clinical Laboratory Assistant performs laboratory non-technical tasks to assist laboratory workflow. Performsother duties as assigned.Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:1. Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.2. Monitors pending lists and assists with Add on testing.3. Manages specimens to be given to technical staff for pending tests.4. Processes send out testing to be placed on a packing list to a referral laboratory5. Monitors inventory as required for par levels and storage6. Answers phones and places phone calls are requested.7. Removes and discards specimens that are no longer needed.8. Investigate location and status of specimens in the LIS9. Place specimens in centrifuge and on automated track systems.10. Records temperature, humidity, and other maintenance logs as needed.11. Performs all other related duties as assigned.Education & Experience Requirements---Education & Experience Requirements---High School graduate or GED. Basic computer skills.---Previous laboratory experience or previous experience in a healthcare environment preferred.Core CompetenciesFlexibilityOrganizedAdaptabilityAttention to DetailStress TolerancePhysical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment---May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposedto are listed in the hospital's SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital's Intranet site(Employee Tools/SDS Access).
