Job Description:

The Director of Employee & Labor Relations will create process and influence change through effective management (both proactive and reactive) of a wide range of employee and labor relations issues. This person will be accountable for partnering with the HR Business Partner team, working with colleagues across the organization, building trusted relationships quickly, and lead with warmth, empathy, compassion, and creativity to think inside of and outside of the box to drive the right solutions. This position reports to the Senior Vice President & CHRO and is part of the HR Business Partner team.Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors Collaborates with relevant stakeholders to develop a strategic and proactive approach to Employee Relations and Labor Relations, which includes identifying trends, developing frameworks, leading training and coaching for HR leaders.Acts as a credible, trusted advisor to senior HR and business leaders by leveraging experience, expertise, organizational awareness, business acumen, a pragmatic mindset, and the ability to effectively partner with and influence others.Regularly consult with human resources, department managers, and senior staff to get input into aspects of personnel policy, wages, benefits, pensions, work rules, and practices. Researches, develops, interprets, and administers union contract(s) regarding wages, benefits, employee working conditions, health care, pensions, union and management practices, grievances, and other contractual provisionsManage grievance procedures. Serves as an advisor to human resources staff members and other managers of unionized employees to ensure compliance with the contract.Communicates with employees regarding employee relations concerns; provides guidance and recommendations for resolution of issues.Stays informed about the state of the economy and market-rate pay and familiar with current trends in collective bargaining agreements and competitive benefits and work rules. Oversees complex and sensitive workplace investigations in collaboration with SVP & CHRO, HRBPs and Legal Counsel. Determines findings and recommendations for resolution.Provides consultation and guidance to HRBPs and Managers on addressing employee behavior and performance concerns; assists with the development of feedback or corrective / disciplinary actions.Develop processes that allow the operation to improve productivity and scale according to organizational goals and business needs; champion continuous improvement efforts and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and standardization.Leverage analytics to provide insights to HR and business leadership on employee relations trends and engagement opportunities.Develop and maintain partnerships with IT Security, Privacy, Compliance and other centralized support functions to ensure operating procedures are compliant with local, state and federal laws.Develops and maintains positive professional relationships with stakeholders by ensuring employee relations matters are addressed in a comprehensive and collaborative manner.Performs all other projects and related duties as assigned. Education & Experience RequirementsBachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field. Juris Doctor degree preferred10+ years' experience in employee relations and Human ResourcesFamiliar with collective bargaining processProficient in Microsoft Office applicationsGood Understanding of the NLRAExperience in Union organizing activitiesDeep experience in employee relations and employment lawSubject-matter expert in regulatory areas (i.e., ADA, FMLA) and complianceStrong capabilities in investigating and preparing strategy and responses to third-party EEOC, OFCCP and other governmental changes and requests as well as threatened litigation.Demonstrated track record of partnering with HR and people leaders to manage complex employment matters to mitigate risk and drive business resultsPrior experience building and implementing employee relations foundational processes Strong diversity and inclusion competence and passion for the integration of DEI practices Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills to establish trust, credibility, and rapport at all levels of the organizationHas a mindset of continuous improvement and can embrace the WPH exceptional everyday mission and values Working understanding of statistical concepts and methods of data collection.Ability to compile, research, and analyze information.Ability to compose and present comprehensive reports.Core CompetenciesPlanning & Organizational SkillsAbility to manage competing prioritiesStrong analytical skillsFunctions independently and with groupsCritical thinkerExcellent communication skills (verbal & written)Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work EnvironmentMay be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital's SDS (Safety Data Sheet) database and may be accessed through the hospital's Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS database can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc. (Standard for all Job Descriptions)Must be able to work under normal office conditions and work from home as required.Work may require simultaneous use of a telephone/headset and PC/keyboard and sitting for extended durationsMay be required to work additional hours beyond standard work scheduleMust be able to travel to various Hospital locations
