Job Description:
Full-time Description North Atlantic Industries is a leading
provider of embedded electronic solutions, specializing in rugged
embedded computing, power supplies and motion simulation and
measurement technologies. Our products and services are used by the
military, aerospace, and industrial markets, helping to advance
technology and protect the free world. NAI was proud to be
recognized as a Top Workplace on Long Island by Newsday! Our
culture is very collaborative. We have team building events,
company picnics, special event day and employee game room. Please
visit our website at www.naii.com/careers to see more about what
makes us a unique place to work. Summary: As an Electrical Engineer
specializing in Mixed-Signal and FPGA Systems, you are responsible
for the end-to-end design, development, and integration of rugged
embedded hardware products within NAI’s Configurable Open Systems
Architecture (COSA) platform. Your work directly supports
mission-critical aerospace, defense, and industrial applications by
delivering robust, deterministic solutions that bridge analog and
digital domains. This role offers a technical career growth path
with the opportunity to advance into a Principal Design Engineer
position. Engineers who excel in this role often take on ownership
of COSA product families, contribute to system-level architectural
decisions, and play a key role in early-stage R&D. It’s an
ideal fit for those who thrive on solving complex hardware
challenges and want to deepen their impact through technical
expertise. Requirements Design and review schematics for embedded
mixed-signal circuit boards used in rugged, high-reliability
environments. Own product-level power architectures, including
power sequencing, current budgeting, protection circuitry, and
thermal design. Develop and debug analog, discrete, and high-speed
differential interfaces (e.g., ADCs, signal conditioning,
RS-422/485, Ethernet, video). Implement VHDL-based control logic to
manage hardware behavior with deterministic timing and precision.
Conduct board-level hardware bring-up and validation using lab
equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, function generators).
Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers in motor control,
power electronics, signal processing, and embedded systems. Support
new product introduction (NPI) efforts for COSA platforms through
early-stage R&D and system integration. Participate in peer
design reviews and ensure compliance with NAI’s quality, safety,
and environmental standards. Candidates must be a U.S. Person,
defined as either a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident
(Green Card holder), and must be able to provide appropriate
documentation upon hire to verify this status. Please note that
some positions involve sensitive customer contracts and require
U.S. citizenship as a condition of employment. Qualifications and
Education requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
or related field (Master’s preferred). 3–7 years of experience in
mixed-signal hardware development for embedded systems. Proficient
in schematic capture and PCB design tools (OrCAD or equivalent).
Hands-on experience with FPGA development using VHDL in real-time
control systems. Solid understanding of analog and digital signal
interfacing techniques. Experience designing and analyzing power
systems including regulators and sequencing. · Capable of hands-on
hardware bring-up, troubleshooting, and validation in a lab
environment. · Familiarity with simulation and design tools such as
Vivado and LTSpice. Preferred Skills and Abilities: Background in
designing systems for aerospace, military, or industrial
environments. Prior experience with motor drives, power supplies,
or rugged instrumentation. Knowledge of deterministic system design
and hard real-time control. Ability to work independently and drive
technical ownership from concept through production. Strong
analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail in
signal behavior and timing. North Atlantic Industries offers
