Job Description:
SummaryThe Lead Engineer supports the Engineering Department is
responsible for leading the engineering team during the planning,
design, execution and closeout of large, multi-discipline projects
and programs. The lead engineer works directly with project team
members to develop engineering solutions to solve the problem or
achieve the objective, coordinate all design documents into one
construction engineering package and owns the overall delivery of
the engineering phase of the project. The Lead Engineer is
responsible for managing Engineering consultants on projects
designed by outside firms and coordinates/facilitates the design
review and comments on projects managed by engineering.

- Responsible for the technical project leadership and
coordination of the design and technical activities throughout all
phases of the project or program.
- Lead the collaboratively technical effort of multidiscipline
project team to define the detailed scope of the project and
determine how the Engineering deliverables will be achieved.
- Responsible for the development and delivery of the technical
portion of the project from planning, scoping, options, design,
execution and closeout.
- Responsible for the stakeholder communication and management as
well as documentation of decisions and justifications made by the
technical team.
- Responsible for requesting and receiving comments from
stakeholders and coordinating and disseminating comment resolution.
Works with the project management and site leads to resolve all
comments and needed input.
- Supervise project activities for technical content
coordination, constructability, accuracy, cost control and
schedule.
- Supervise and coordinate the work of engineers and contractors
and consultants in a particular area of program focus and
activity.
- Mentor other engineers in executing the role of lead engineer
on smaller projects within the disciplines.
- Assist the director Project Delivery to establishing the
standard best practices for project lead engineer execution.
- Develop project plans, timelines and work schedules including
stakeholder reviews for the engineering phase of the
project.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Expert in utility industry standards and practices as well as
applicable local/state/federal code requirements.
- Broad technical knowledge across multiple engineering
disciplines. Strong experience working with engineering consultants
and contractors.
- Thorough understanding of NYPA's policies, operations,
procedures and business objectives as well as those of the
customers and understanding of the Authority's interaction with
other utilities regulatory agencies and customers is
desirable.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and good verbal communication
skills. Ability to organize information and effectively present
ideas to the intended audience.
- Strong project management skills; a team oriented approach to
project management to plan, execute and complete multiple projects
on time and within budget.
- Demonstrated high level of personal motivation, creativity,
foresight and good judgment.
- Strong collaboration and negotiation skills to professionally
and respectfully resolve disputes with contactors, stakeholders,
and project team with outcomes that are in the best interest of the
Power Authority.Education, Experience and Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering
or related engineering discipline. Masters or advanced degree
preferred.
- Valid NYS PE License
- Minimum ten (10) years of applicable work experience.
- Project Management or Engineering experience in the utility
industry preferred.
- Experience with NYPA's policies and business practices
preferred.Physical Requirements
- Approximately 25% - 40% travel primarily within NY State.
- Ability to access all a.reas of the site and conduct physical
evaluations of grounds and equipment including ability to climb and
work at high elevations, walk a significant distance, sometimes on
uneven ground, and occasional minor lifting.
- Valid NY State driver's license, which must be maintained
throughout employment.New York Power Authority is committed to

target salary range for this position is: $130,500 - $159,500.
Salary offered will be determined based the successful candidates'
relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.The New York
