POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES: The Sports Coach is responsible for creating the curriculum and overseeing the day-to-day implementation of a particular Core Sports program. This position is responsible for coaching children from grades 3 to 11 a wide variety of sports such as soccer, basketball, baseball, tennis, volleyball, gaga, capture the flag and more. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: · Develops children’s fundamental movement and sports skills (“run, catch, throw”) and early understanding of sports activities. · Leads sport-specific drill and game components including set-up, clean-up and equipment management with fellow coaches. · Develops children’s self-esteem and confidence by growing their capacity for and success in physical activity in individual and team sport situations. · Collaborates with the Sports Supervisor in creating a curriculum and ensuring day-to-day implementation. · Ensures the health, safety and welfare of class participants and work towards positive resolution if any issues are presented. · “Plant the seeds” for a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity and sports participation. · Interacts with parents, caregivers, and team members in various SJJCC departments to create a strong sense of community. · Light administrative work. · Additional duties as assigned.
