Educational/Vocational Specialist works with program staff to help
program participants connect with jobs, job readiness training, and
continuing education by developing contacts and networks in the
public and private sectors. The specialist provides economic
support and employment-related services to promote individual and
family self-sufficiency within the Bronx 46th, 47th, and 52nd
Precincts.LOCATION: 1995 Jerome Avenue Bronx NY 10453HOURS: 35
Hours/Week, ExemptMajor Duties:
- Assist participants in obtaining and maintaining employment
aligned with their vocational goals.
- Assess ongoing vocational functioning using background info and
work experiences.
- Conduct job development and search activities tailored to the
interests of the population served.
- Engage with employer contacts and advocate for participants and
staff, connecting them to opportunities within and outside of
CMS.
- Help participants and community partners with paperwork for the
Anti-Gun Violence Employment Program.
- Support participants and staff with housing, healthcare, social
services, and educational issues.
- Build community relationships through outreach to residents,
businesses, and agencies.
- Represent the program at community meetings to develop
coordinated strategies.
- Assist the Program Director in engaging and coordinating
volunteers.
- Document all work, including case notes and referrals, using
the approved database.
- Provide support and linkages to community programs and
opportunities.
- Participate in meetings with MOCJ-OPGV, DOHMH, and GSS as
required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.Qualifications:
- HS diploma required; four years of related community work
experience preferred.
- Baccalaureate degree preferred.
- Deep knowledge of educational and vocational processes.
- Proven community outreach and mobilization skills.
- Experience working with at-risk youth and gang-involved young
people.
- Excellent communication skills for effective
collaboration.
- Proficiency with computers and office software.
- Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays.
- Ability to walk 30 blocks and use public transportation.
- Criminal justice history preferred but not under current
supervision.
- Valid, clean NYS driver's license preferred.
- Commitment to community change and trauma-informed
